Our Challenge

The programme is both exceptional and regrettably, an exception.

Breatheasy is a template for home care that can be replicated. Funding of research, the education of specialist nursing staff, and equipment are essential to the programme’s future.

We need to engage health facilities that have chronically ill children requiring extended hospitalisation, and to encourage them to shift their policies and practice to family-based home care.

We need to train paediatric nurse specialists in a clinical Masters programme in order to lead and sustain this innovative model which is a paradigm shift in nursing practice.
