This angel never gives up

Sister Jane Booth of the Red Cross Children’s Hospital could talk for hours about all the little ones she cares for. And it would certainly be because she knows them and their families well. She has been working at the hospital since 1979 and spends each working day caring for children ranging in age from birth to 13. In Ward E1, where Booth is the leader of the tracheotomy home-care programme, the young patients all have breathing problems and most have undergone tracheotomies, when a tube is inserted in the wind pipe. But once they are on the road to recovery, Booth, one of the few advanced paediatric nurses in the country, is determined that they “live a normal life with their family”. Her motto is: “Get them out of here”.
